What a laptop. Battery life is still very good. The fan after using it for a couple of days i can see it is marginally better. I enabled hardware power management in the BIOS and set speedstep to automatic when it is on AC power. With level 3 brightness using Vista basic interface and the graphics set to max battery, battery life indicates just over 9hrs with the standard battery.
I ran a passmark using Vista Premium 32bit. It scored 597 for the cpu. How comes the U7600 scores higher in this test when the specs are exactly the same except that supports 64bit? Remember as well that the passmark tests for W7 will rate the CPU higher so comparasion between Vista and W7 is not accurate. I know though the U7600 scores in the 700's in the cpu passmark test.
My niece has a total of 3 main batteries now and two internal ones so making 5. The display i swaped it with the newer laptop. That display is fantastic. This now has as i mentioned before a dvd burner now and really no netbook can touch this. Surely this will be good at least for the next couple of yrs.
I also got the wwan to work with the Sierra MC8780 module. I get 2 bars but 3 with the Option card in my TT. I hope i did the antenna correctly. I had to cut of some of the copper foil but that is for another post lol.
Also, i did a semi clean install and that seems to have helped things.
I'm also selling of the display now, hard drive and keyboard so hopefully i can recoup some if not all of my costs. I need to hang onto the old motherboard just in case something happens with the new one. Ideally i would hang onto the display as well but well i want to recoup some of my costs back.
This one also did have the heatsink that is copper.

If you want to perk it up even more, pop Windows 7 on it. Runs really great and pretty much takes care of itself, unlike Vista. Battery life is similar with wireless on, and way better with wireless off - mine idles around 11.5 hours, real-life runtime with just the main battery is easily above 8. I've taken overnight trips without the adapter.
The Core 2 processor is substantially different internally from the Core series. It has deeper pipelining and other throughput enhancements. It does draw somewhat more power however, and the Core in ours will run cooler and longer, in general. Also, remember the P7230 has a 945GMS chipset, which runs the memory at 533MHz (also better for power).
If you have 5 battery packs, sell three. They won't age well.

tmt, thanks for explaining. I was ready to put W7 on this laptop but my niece protested that she doesn't like W7. If she changes her mind in the future then i will help her install it.

Cost of breathing new lease into this laptop
Upgrade laptop bought for £255
Sold display £150 Sold top case £45 Sold hard drive £70
End result £265, made a profit of £10 and i still have a part to sell for £40.
I also still have the core solo entire lower chassis with motherboard etc and cd burner.
These are extras so you cannot really include them in this upgrade project.
I bought a wwan module for £40 and a new battery for £40 and Ominpass software for £32. I also got W7 for free from a friend.
I didn't really need to buy the battery, but well upgrading the motherboard and dvd drive cost me nothing.

I've found it impossible to sell the P7230 core solo motherboard for even next to nothing where motherboards are concerned, so i've thought about keeping it and upgrading that one to a U7600 processor in the event of and keeping it as back up. I think the highest processor it can use is a U7600? I'm not sure why the U7700 upgrade fails for this model, it shouldn't really as the TZ uses the 945gms can use the U7700 processor.
It is the U7700 processor that i'd really like to use.
Does anyone have any recommendations who could do this job cheaply? The emphasis is on cheap lol.
I wonder if you would actually notice a difference between a U2500/U7600 and a U7700?
The sim card holder has its own separate board so it should be a straight swap in the event of.

There is actually an OEM board (No MODS) that carries a U7600 processor. It was the last revision released by Fujitsu before P7230 discontinued. Search tmt's thread. He mentioned the model number before.
U7600 is the maximum processor this board supports. I've also tried U7700, but it will not boot. It does not have the microcode in the BIOS to support it. |

Thanks OnlyOnly0613, so that's why it won't work then. I'm trying to find someone that can do a cheap BGA job as a hobby lol.

Ok i now have someone who will do my upgrade for me to a U7600 processor. It will cost £110 and they are vaiorefurbs on ebay. The faulty TZ motherboard with a U7600 cost me £38.
I will probably sell on or keep the core duo motherboard. This way if i need to send it in to Fujistu at least the motherboard serial number will be the same.
There is only 1w difference.
Also, the U2500 operates at 0.85V - 1.1V. The U7600 operates between 0.8V-0.975V.
It seems to me that there shouldn't really be any difference in battery life.

Does anyone know the PPL code for these motherboards? I have looked before but couldn't detect it. When i get it back i will overclock the C2D using setfsb to 1.33 or 1.4ghz.
